Wilson Introduces Cyberattack Standards Study Act
Congressman Joe Wilson (SC-02) issued the following statement after introducing the Cyberattack Standards Study Act today, critical legislation that directs the Director of National Intelligence to conduct a study on cyberattack standards of measurement:
“Cyberattacks have the unique ability to penetrate and disrupt personal, business, and government systems—yet there is no clear, unified measurement for assessing their impact across multiple agencies or jurisdictions. Attacks have levels, from nuisance to act of war.
“Recent cyberattacks have made it clear that we need to bring together the Director of National Intelligence, the Secretary of Homeland Security, the Director of the FBI, and the Secretary of Defense to conduct a study to define how to quantify a cyber incident and how to determine an appropriate response.”
Wilson had a previous version of this legislation included as an amendment to the Intelligence Authorization Act which passed the House of Representatives but was not considered by the Senate.
