The SC 126 Belvedere Clearwater Road Widening

The SC 126 Belvedere Clearwater Road Widening project will widen a 1.87 mile section of SC 126 between U.S. 1/U.S.78 and I-520 from two lanes to five lanes. The widening project will address increasing traffic volumes, and accommodate a growing commuter population in western Aiken County. Traffic volume along the project corridor is anticipated to increase 130% by 2030. The project will include improved access for bicycle and pedestrian users of the corridor and increased access to commercial uses at the north and south ends of the corridor. The project has been approved for funding in the 2050 Long Range Transportation Plan and the FY 21 – FY 27 Transportation Improvement Program for the Augusta Regional Transportation Study (MPO). The TIP was adopted on February 25, 2021. The SC 126 Widening Project has been included in the ARTS 2035 Long Range Transportation Plan, the current 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan, and TIP updates since 2015. The construction phase of the project is the only phase outstanding. The total construction cost is $16,337,119. Under the STP formula, $13,069,695 is the Federal share. Aiken County requests funding for the full Federal share of the construction phase through the Surface Transportation Reauthorization bill.
