Elementary School Essay Competition

I am grateful to announce that the office is currently accepting submissions for the Second Annual Smiling Faces, Beautiful Places Essay Competition, an elementary-school writing challenge for students in South Carolina’s Second Congressional District. As the husband of a retired school teacher, I know the importance of encouraging writing in young students.

I would like to invite any elementary school student in the Second District to submit a short essay (maximum 300 words) detailing the favorite aspect of South Carolina history they learned in school. Essays may be submitted electronically by Friday, May 13, 2016. The included handout has submission information and more details about the competition.

I look forward to reading the submissions and speaking with your students about all of the rich history of our great state!

Handout available here.
