As Vice-Chair of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, I am committed to strengthening America’s education system. Since coming to Congress, I have fought to advance fiscally responsible reforms to improve educational opportunities from pre-K early childhood education through higher education and beyond.
Over the past few years, unnecessary federal regulations have made it much harder for teachers to offer their students the most excellent education. I supported H.R. 5, The Student Success Act, which is legislation designed to reduce the federal footprint in education by getting rid of the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), the current accountability system that no longer effectively benefits our students. The passage of this bill will return responsibility back to the states and locally elected school boards, the entities which best know what it takes to provide quality education to our children.
I have faith in our school boards, administrators, and professional classroom educators and will continue to work as a partner with them to ensure that students in the Second Congressional District receive the highest quality education.

Congressman Joe Wilson (SC-02) released the following statement in remembrance of the 40th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision:
“Forty years ago today, our nation’s highest Court delivered a grave decision that weakened the immeasurable value of human life and forever changed our culture. Since 1973, over 50 million unborn children have been denied the unalienable right to life. Today, I pay tribute to these innocent lives and pledge my support to protect every human life, those born and unborn.”
(West Columbia, SC) - Congressman Joe Wilson plans to join First Community Bank of Lexington on Monday morning and participate in the “Teach Children to Save Day” program. This program is a national campaign focused on the importance of teaching young people a lifelong savings habit. Since 1997, the Teach Children to Save program has brought saving education to more than five million young people across America. Studies have found that students with saving accounts are more likely to attend college than those without one.
