Congressman Joe Wilson Appointed to NDAA Conference Committee

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) released the following statement after Speaker Paul Ryan appointed him to the conference committee for the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2019.

"As the father of four sons who have served in the military overseas, I am extraordinarily grateful for this opportunity to support our troops, military families, and veterans. As a member of the National Defense Authorization Act conference committee, I will work to ensure our national security, military strength, and defense capabilities remain a top priority. I look forward to advancing this critical legislation and as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Readiness, I am committed to working with the entire conference committee to advance this bipartisan legislation."

Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, Mac Thornberry, made the following statement praising Congressman Wilson's appointment:

"As a veteran and proud father of four sons who have served in the military, Congressman Joe Wilson is a consistent, strong advocate for our armed forces. As the current Chairman of the Subcommittee on Readiness, and past Chairman of the Emerging Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee, his voice will be critical during the upcoming conference proceedings," Thornberry said.

Conferees, appointed by the Speaker of the House and approved by the full House, work together to resolve differences between House and Senate-passed versions of a bill that funds the Department of Defense and the Armed Forces of the United States. Congressman Wilson is a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee and Chairman of the Readiness Subcommittee.
