Congressman Wilson Moves To Save The Savannah Riverfront

June 10, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson (SC-02) released the following statement after introducing an amendment to protect the New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam:

"I filed an amendment to an appropriations measure, co-sponsored by Congressmen Rick Allen and Jeff Duncan, which would not allow for any funds to go towards planning or developing an alternative to the New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam that would result in a pool level lower than 114.5 feet. This was the physical level of the pool on the date of enactment of the 2016 WIIN Act, December 16, 2016, and it is critical that the Corps adhere to the interpretation of the language that requires the pool not be lowered below this level. I am hopeful that we can come to a solution with the Savannah District Corps that is acceptable for our community and am grateful to continue working with local leaders to save our beautiful Savannah Riverfront."
