CONGRESSMAN WILSON RECOGNIZES KEY MILESTONE FOR THE SAVANNAH RIVER PLUTONIUM PROCESSING FACILITY
On June 30, Congressman Joe Wilson released the following statement applauding the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration's achievement of Critical Decision (CD)-1 for the Savannah River Plutonium Processing Facility at the Savannah River Site. This critical milestone approves the conceptual design and preliminary cost and schedule for the NNSA's path forward to producing 50 plutonium pits at the Site.
"For too long, our nation has deferred nuclear modernization efforts that are beginning to impact our national security and nuclear deterrent. I am grateful that the past three administrations have recognized this need and developed a resilient strategy that incorporates the capabilities of the Savannah River Site to achieve this mission. CD-1 lays a foundation for the future of the Savannah River Plutonium Processing Facility and I look forward to working with my colleagues to see this project come to fruition."
