CONGRESSMAN WILSON STATEMENT ON WITHDRAWAL FROM THE OPEN SKIES TREATY
On May 21, Congressman Joe Wilson, Senior Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement on the decision to withdraw from the Open Skies Treaty:
“President Trump has taken yet another bold step towards deterring Russian aggression and strengthening American security by withdrawing from the Open Skies Treaty. An international agreement of any kind is only as good as its implementation. But President Putin has been exploiting U.S. compliance with international agreements to his own ends, while Russia openly flouts its commitments.
“I am grateful that President Trump has withdrawn the U.S. from the Open Skies Treaty after years of Russian violations. This decision sends another strong message to Moscow that the Trump Administration will continue to hold the Kremlin accountable.”
