Congressmen Wilson and Boyle Statement on Historic EU Response to Putin Invasion

March 1, 2022

Washington, D.C. – Following the European Union's historic decision to shut its airspace to Russian airlines and buy arms for Ukraine in response to Putin's deadly invasion, Congressmen Joe Wilson (R-SC) and Brendan F. Boyle (D-PA), Co-Chairs of the Congressional European Union Caucus, released the following statement:

"We commend the European Union's recent decision to close its airspace to Russian airlines, fund supplies of weapons to Ukraine, and ban pro-Kremlin media outlets in response to Vladimir Putin's unprovoked and horrific invasion. Yesterday, the EU described these new actions as, 'a defining moment for European history,' and as Co-Chairs of the Congressional EU Caucus, we could not agree more. The way the 27-nation bloc has rallied behind Ukraine amid this crisis is not only unprecedented, but has also been critical to the resistance efforts Ukrainians are mounting throughout the country. These steps mark a breakthrough in the effort to support Ukraine and devastate Vladimir Putin and his enablers strategically, economically, and militarily. Congress stands resolutely with our allies in the European Union in the effort to protect Ukraine."
