PRO Parents of South Carolina Receive Grant to Help Parents of Disabled Children

September 23, 2002
Today, Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) commended PRO (Parents Reaching Out) Parents of South Carolina, the only parent training program in S.C., on receiving an estimated $295,560 grant, totaling $1.47M over 5 years, to help parents with disabled children."Parents with disabled children have additional concerns and needs that must be met," said Rep. Wilson. "PRO Parents of South Carolina, along with Director Mary Eaddy and Assistant Director Diane Trantham are taking a hands-on approach and giving these parents the support they need. I've been in support of PRO Parents of South Carolina since they applied for this grant, and I'm pleased to see that their efforts have been successful."The grant was awarded by the United State Department of Education, and it will fund the Parent Training and Information Centers Program, which is coordinated by 14 staff members. The PRO Parent program will give parents of disabled children the training and information they need to assist their children in obtaining services and opportunities needed to become successful adults."President Bush and Republicans are proving our commitment to children with disabilities by making grants like these available," said Rep. Wilson. "The President and Education Committee Chairman, John Boehner, have also called for $1 billion to reauthorize the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, which I strongly support and will fight for as a member of the House Education & Workforce Committee."###
