Wilson Announces Congressional Agenda

Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) held press conferences today in Columbia and Beaufort to discuss his agenda for the 108th Congress, which begins this upcoming Tuesday. Rep. Wilson outlined his agenda to the constituents of the Second District to inform them of his goals for the upcoming Session of Congress."My top priorities for the 108th Congress are providing for a strong national defense, working with President Bush to enact real tax cuts, restoring cuts made to Medicare funding, and working with the Education and the Workforce committee to reauthorize welfare reform and improve our education system for all children," Rep. Wilson. "In order to meet the national defense goals, I will reintroduce legislation to provide immediate retirement befits for members of the National Guard and Reserve with 20 years of service, introduce initiatives on behalf of our nation's firemen, and work with President Bush to make sure that the war on terrorism is fully funded in our defense authorizations bills to be presented to the Armed Services Committee and Congress in the 108th Congress."In order to produce real tax cuts, I will co-sponsor and fight for legislation to eliminate the Clinton tax on Social Security benefits and work with President Bush to make his tax cuts permanent, especially the death tax, which penalizes so many small business people and farmers," Rep. Wilson said.Rep. Wilson also vowed to work with the House and Senate leadership to restore Medicare funding to physicians, hospitals, nursing homes, and other Medicare providers. He will also reintroduce the Floyd D. Spence Organ Donor Coordination bill and legislation concerning Alzheimer's and Huntington's Diseases.Also, through his work on the Education and the Workforce Committee, Rep. Wilson will continue to support the House leadership and the President when Congress works to reauthorize the historic 1996 welfare reform law and fine tune the No Child Left Behind legislation.###
