Barnwell County to Receive Over $160,000 through HHS Grant
Today, Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) announced that Barnwell County will receive $163,271 through a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The funds were made available through the Health Care Facilities Construction Project under the Health Resources and Services Administration."This is a crisis that is beginning to be solved," said Congressman Wilson. "Having personally toured the existing Barnwell County facilities, I saw firsthand the desperate need for immediate improvements. This is where mothers bring their children to get inoculated and our neediest come for health care, and they deserve better." "The credit for securing the funding really belongs to County Administrator Pickens Williams, Jr. and particularly County Administrative Assistant Debra Fickling. Through their hard work and dedication, Barnwell residents will get the help they need. In addition, I would like to thank my Special Assistant Ted Felder for his assistance," said Congressman Wilson. Funding provided through this program will allow for the construction of Phase I of the new Barnwell Health Care Facility. The initial phase, which is expected to be completed one year from now, will establish a Human Services Facility out of which the Health Department will operate. Phases two and three will provide for the construction of an Alcohol and Drug Abuse and a Mental Health Facility respectively.###
