Wilson Announces the 22nd Annual Congressional Art Competition

Winning High School Student Receives $12,000 Scholarship, Art Displayed Inside U.S. Capitol

Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) announced the 22nd Annual Congressional District Art Competition for high school students within the Second District of South Carolina. This annual competition features a $12,000 scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design as the top prize."This event allows our Second District high school students an opportunity to share their creative talents with us and draw attention to the importance of art within our community," said Rep. Wilson. "I'm very thankful for participation of the Savannah College of Art and Design, and am anxious to see the entries from our local students."Each high school can enter one picture in each of the following categories: paintings (oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc.), drawings (pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, markers, etc.), collage (must be two dimensional), prints (lithographs, silkscreen, block prints), mixed media, computer generated art, and photography. It will be up to each school to decide which picture to enter. The winning picture from each school will need to be delivered to the Office of Congressman Joe Wilson, 1700 Sunset Boulevard, Suite 1, West Columbia, South Carolina 29169 no later than May 9, 2003. The winner's artwork will be placed for public view in the Capitol Building corridor for one year, where all visitors to the House of Representatives will have the chance to view it. The Second District is comprised of Allendale, Barnwell, Beaufort, Hampton, Jasper and Lexington counties and parts of Aiken, Calhoun, Orangeburg and Richland counties.
