Congressman Joe Wilson (SC-02) issued the following statement today after bonus depreciation language was included in the economic stimulus package agreed to by Congressional leadership and the White House. Congressman Wilson introduced legislation last year and in the 109th Congress to extend the bonus depreciation provisions included in the Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2003.
"As someone who has fought for and seen the positive impact of bonus depreciation, I am proud that we will have the opportunity to put it back into the market place," said Wilson. "This type of incentive will encourage American companies to invest in their own businesses and in our economy. By choosing to grow their companies on our soil and in our markets they will create more jobs for the hardworking Americans who are feeling the pinch of the economic slowdown."
"The best way to stimulate our economy and to weather this current storm is to build on the principles that have made our economy the envy of the world. That means lower taxes, less government regulation, and economic incentives for American businesses. We must create an environment that will keep American jobs and American investment here at home."
