Wilson Co-Sponsors Resolution Honoring Historically Black Colleges and Universities

September 20, 2002
Today, Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) voted in favor of H. Res. 52, a bill he co-sponsored. The Resolution passed the House of Representatives unanimously and makes the third week in September a time to recognize historically black colleges and universities."I'm proud to be associated with this bill," said Rep. Wilson. "Historically black colleges and universities, such as Allen University, South Carolina State University, Voorhees College, Denmark Technical College, Benedict College, Morris College, Clinton Junior College, and Claflin University are important educators in South Carolina deserve to be recognized for producing such accomplished alumni."The resolution distinguishes the significance of historically Black colleges and universities, which have been educating students for more than 100 years, and honors them for their commitment to academic excellence for all students, including low-income and educationally disadvantaged students. It also commends Title III of the Higher Education Act for strengthening the schools' academic quality, institutional management, and financial stability."I've personally had the chance to visit many of these institutions and have seen firsthand what a tremendous job they are doing in preparing our youth for the future," said Rep. Wilson.###
