Wilson Congratulates Dr. Shingara S. Sandhu for Winning Award

Today, Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) applauded Dr. Shingara S. Sandhu for receiving the National Millennium Award for Excellence in Teaching and Research."Congratulations to Dr. Shingara S. Sandhu," said Rep. Wilson. "Anyone who has ever had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Sandhu can easily see his passion for his students and his dedication to teaching. There is no one more deserving of this honor."The award is sponsored by the White House Initiative for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and is organized and conducted by a science and technology cluster composed of nine federal agencies—Department of Agriculture, Department of Defense, Department of Energy, Department of the Interior, Environmental Protection Agency, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, National Institute of Health, National Science Foundation, and Nuclear Regulatory Commission.Dr. Sandhu, a distinguished professor of Chemistry and director of the Center for Excellence in Science and Mathematics, as well as director of research, grants, and sponsored programs at Claflin University, emerged first in a field of more than 100 nominations to win the award. Over his 32 years at Claflin, he has raised an estimated $10 million dollars in grant money for the college, and he is currently writing a pre-college grant for the U.S. Department of Energy."Dr. Sandhu truly represents the best in South Carolina educators, and is just one of the many outstanding professors at Claflin University," said Rep.
