Wilson: House Votes on Series of Bills to Increase Energy Production and Create Jobs

November 21, 2013

Congressman Joe Wilson (SC-02) released the following statement after the House passed three energy bills that promote and expand American energy production, create jobs, and lower energy costs.

Congressman Wilson said, "Our nation has an abundance of energy resources. President Obama claims to support an "all-of-the-above energy plan," but continues to wage his war on energy consumers and providers. Since 2009, the President and his Administration have stalled projects, increased regulations, and created obstacles that limit energy production.

"Our economy can receive the growth spurt it needs by increasing our access to energy exploration and production. With new technological advancements within the natural gas and shale oil industry, we haveopportunities to strengthen our energy independence and create jobs in an environmentally friendly manner. By expanding access to production, consumer prices will decrease, allowing American families to keep more money out of their hard-earned paychecks."

Energy package includes:

H.R. 1965, The Federal Lands Jobs and Energy Security Act – This bill protects and expands onshore American energy production, streamlines permitting processes, and reduces bureaucratic red tape and regulations.

H.R. 2728, The Protecting States' Rights to Promote American Energy Security Act – This bill prohibits the Interior Department from enforcing federal hydraulic fracturing regulations in any state that already has regulations. It also recognizes states' authority to regulate this type of activity.

H.R. 1900, The Natural Gas Pipeline Permitting Reform Act – This bill expedites the federal review process for natural gas pipeline permit applications.
