Wilson Opposes Democrat Withdrawal Plan

Congressman Joe Wilson (SC-02), co-chair of the Victory in Iraq Caucus and member of the House Armed Services Committee, today voted against the Democrat plan to withdraw from Iraq. Wilson released the following statement:

“As our troops fighting in the Global War on Terrorism continue to risk their lives for our safety, I am repeatedly disappointed by the actions of House Democrats. Their plan for withdrawal, included in the emergency supplemental bill, dictates management of the war regardless of the situation on the ground.

“If we learned anything from the Vietnam War it is that wars are not won in the halls of Congress. On the contrary, movement of US troops must be determined by commanders on the ground - not politicians in Washington.

“The outcome of the Iraq war will determine the fate of our nation. Future generations will hail the bravery or condemn the cowardice of our leaders. We must endure, and we must achieve victory.

“Unfortunately, Republicans and those in the Democrat Party who understand what is at stake were outdone by the arm-twisting of the House Democrat leadership. I am thankful that President Bush has pledged to veto the bill.”
