Press Release
Today, Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) was given the “My Boss is a Patriot” award by the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). The award recognizes employers for their support of their employees’ involvement in the National Guard and the Reserves. Congressman Wilson, who is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, was nominated for the “My Boss is a Patriot” award by his military and veterans caseworker, Jim St. Clair. St. Clair is currently a Captain in the South Carolina Air National Guard and a Public Affairs Officer assigned to the State Headquarters. The award, which was presented by the Secretary of the Army, Thomas E. White, recognizes employers understanding and acceptance of the sacrifices military personnel must make in the workplace. “Congressman Wilson clearly defines what a patriot is through his actions,” said Captain St. Clair. “His love for both the United States and for those who protect her is exhibited through his respect for those in the military.” “I feel very honored to have such a great relationship with my staff,” said Rep. Wilson. “It’s important that all employers support their workers’ efforts in making our country safe and secure. I’m so proud of Jim and his dedication to our nation through both military and public service.” Rep. Wilson is the only actively drilling member of the National Guard in Congress, with 30 years in military service. He is currently a Colonel in the South Carolina Army National Guard as a Staff Judge Advocate assigned to the 218th Mechanized Infantry Brigade. Three of his four sons serve in the military, as well. ###
