Wilson Statement on President Trump's Iran Nuclear Deal Announcement

January 12, 2018

Washington, D.C. – Rep. Joe Wilson, a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement regarding President Trump's Iran announcement.

"While I do not support the Iran Nuclear Deal, I am grateful for President Trump's continued leadership on increasing sanctions and turning up the pressure on those groups and individuals within Iran who perpetuate and finance terrorism. I concur with fellow South Carolinian Ambassador Nikki Haley in emphasizing the critical need for thorough vetting of Iranian compliance with deescalating their nuclear program."

It is important to note that the United States is maintaining targeted sanctions on people and companies in Iran despite the announcement today. In February of last year, President Trump announced sanctions on 25 individuals and entities following Iran's ballistic missile test.
