Congressman Wilson Succeeds at OSCE PA Annual Meeting
Washington, DC – Congressman Joe Wilson (SC-02), Chairman of the U.S. Helsinki Commission, attended the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA) annual meeting, this week, in The Hague, Netherlands.
The OSCE PA passed a Wilson-led resolution on fundamental freedoms and democratic integrity in the nation of Georgia – an important move in support of President Trump’s strong foreign policy agenda and against war criminal Putin’s assault on our allies in Eastern Europe. Congressman Wilson was also unanimously elected the new Chairman of the Committee on Political Affairs and Security, which gives the United States a powerful position as we continue to lead in European diplomacy and combat Putin’s aggression.
Building on a successful 2026 Annual Meeting in The Hague, plans are already underway for the 2027 Annual Meeting to take place in Charleston, South Carolina. Hosting this conference in the United States would send an unmistakable message of American leadership and reaffirm our nation’s enduring commitment to transatlantic security, democracy, human rights, and the rules-based international order. Additionally, Charleston’s historic Southern hospitality will be on full display for our international allies, and South Carolina’s economy will benefit from the influx of nearly 500 people coming for the meeting.
Members of the South Carolina Congressional Delegation joined a letter led by Congressman Wilson to Speaker Mike Johnson which stressed the importance of hosting the OSCE PA 2027 annual session in Charleston.
Congressman Wilson previously led a letter joined by Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS), Senate Chairman of the U.S. Helsinki Commission, Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN), Ranking Member of the U.S. Helsinki Commission, and Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Senate Ranking Member of the U.S. Helsinki Commission, along with numerous members of the commission, to secure funding for Charleston to host the annual session.
Congressman Wilson joins Tobias Winkler of Germany, the Rapporteur of the First Committee, Jevrosima Pejovic of Montenegro, the Deputy Chairman, and U.S. Congressman Marc Veasey (D-TX), the outgoing Chairman of the First Committee.
After conclusion of the OSCE PA in the Netherlands, Chairman Wilson joined the other members of the delegation traveling to Slovenia and Greece where they discussed key issues of mutual security with these core NATO allies.
