On March 19, Congressman Joe Wilson issued the following statement on introducing the Iran Human Rights and Accountability Act of 2021:

"Today, I introduced the Iran Human Rights and Accountability Act of 2021, which stands with the people of Iran and their desire to live in freedom and with basic human rights. I am grateful for the support of Congressmen Jim Banks and Greg Steube on this legislation. This bill, introduced on the eve of the Iranian New Year of Nowruz, which marks the beginning of spring, may hopefully be the beginning of a new season for the people of Iran.

On March 3, Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) and Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) introduced the Foreign Influence Transparency Act for the 117th Congress. For too long, foreign entities have taken advantage of exemptions under the Foreign Agents Registration Act and made transactions with American universities that are often undisclosed. Additionally, colleges and universities have seldom complied with current law (20 U.S.C. 1011f) requiring disclosure of gifts or contracts with foreign sources.

Today, the University of South Carolina (UofSC) announced plans to officially close the Confucius Institute (CI) on their campus. UofSC made the decision to close the CI over increasing national concerns regarding China and the role of the CI, impact of the CI on other important University federal funding initiatives and priorities, and concerns raised by important University stakeholders. Yesterday, Congressman Joe Wilson and Congressman Ted Deutch reintroduced the Bassam Barabandi Rewards for Justice Act. On January 28, Congressman Joe Wilson introduced the Military Child Educational Freedom Act. This legislation opens Coverdell Education Savings Accounts for active-duty military families who wish to use the funds for homeschooling, regardless of the state in which they reside. The bill is supported by the South Carolina Superintendent for Education, Molly Spearman, the South Carolina Association of Independent Home Schools (SCAIHS), the Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC), and the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA).
