The $34 billion Energy and Water Appropriations Bill that passed the House recently is by no means perfect legislation.

But there are many important aspects of the bill to cheer about, not least the funding to continue the MOX project at Savannah River Site.

The bipartisan spending package allots $345 million to continue construction for the mixed-oxide fuel fabrication facility for the 2015 fiscal year beginning Oct. 1. This temporarily would reverse the Obama administration's plan to put the MOX facility on "cold standby" – a bureaucratic euphemism for termination.

Noel Canning that President Obama's "recess" appointments to the National Labor Relations Board in January 2012 were unconstitutional. At that time the Senate was not in "recess," but in a "pro forma" session.

On November 21, 2010, Corporal Kyle Carpenter of Gilbert, South Carolina, risked his life for a fellow Marine when he threw himself on a hand grenade while keeping watch on a rooftop in Afghanistan. He is the 8th living recipient to receive this most prestigious honor while serving in Iraq or Afghanistan.
