“Mr. Speaker, I rise today to thank Lt. Col. Michael Viers for his selfless sacrifice in helping to save the life of little girl in Second District of South Carolina,” said Rep. Wilson.

Today, Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) announced $1.8 million in incentive grants would be awarded to South Carolina under the Workforce Investment Act (WIA).

Today, Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) voted in favor of H.R. 2, President George W. Bush’s Jobs and Growth Act of 2003. Rep. Wilson co-sponsored the bill, which passed by a vote of 222-203. Ways & Means Committee Chairman Bill Thomas (R-CA) included in the provision an increase in bonus depreciation from 30 percent to 50 percent through 2005, an initiative virtually identical to the bill introduced by Rep. Wilson, H.R. 223, and the Business Expensing Act of 2003.

"I am appreciative that Bonus Depreciation will be increased from 30% to 50% for three years if this plan is passed, an initiative similar to (H.R. 223) The Business Expensing Act of 2003, which I introduced this year. This proposal was championed by Rep. Jerry Weller, recognizing that when businesses can save money immediately on buying new equipment, more money is put into the economy and more jobs are created."

“As many of our Beaufort Marines return today, we are reminded of their valor and dedication,” said Rep. Wilson, a member of the House Armed Services Committee. “We owe them and their families our deep gratitude. I’m happy to report our troops will receive another pay raise, along with other important benefits.”

Today, Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) took part in a press conference with Education & the Workforce Chairman John Boehner (R - OH), highlighting Republican initiatives to support teachers.

“Today's decision by the court proves that the McCain-Feingold bill was fundamentally flawed. This bill does not eradicate the abuses within the campaign finance system, but instead infringes upon the First Amendment rights of speech and association."
