Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) was appointed to the House International Relations Committee. Today, he announced that he will serve on the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, which has a wide range of jurisdiction over United States international activities, including the investigation of the United Nation's Oil for Food Program. Additionally, he will serve on the Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific. "I look forward to being an active participant of this important committee." said Wilson.

"Mr. Speaker, having served as poll manager, poll watcher, county election commissioner, state ballot security coordinator, campaign manager and candidate, I know firsthand the challenges of free elections. In our developed democracy, we are confronted with the serious problems of securing polling locations, recruiting poll workers, printing intelligible ballots, finding dedicated managers, providing current poll lists…the challenges are endless. But, unlike Iraqi voters, we've rarely been asked to brave bullets, bombs and terrorist thugs on our way to the polls.

Calling it "the right thing to do for our military families," Representative Joe Wilson (SC-2nd District) and Representative Marsha Blackburn (TN-7th District) joined today to introduce the Honoring our Fallen Soldiers and Families Act.The legislation will increase to $100,000 the death gratuity benefit for the families of fallen soldiers, and make that benefit retroactive to October 1, 2001.

Congressman Joe Wilson today introduced the Adoption Tax Relief Guarantee Act of 2005 (H.R. 305), which will help make permanent the current $10,000 child adoption tax credit. "While many Americans would like to adopt children, the high costs associated with the adoption process make this option impractical for many families," said Wilson. "By offering a tax credit to offset adoption costs, we'll help these families provide loving homes to millions of children.

Today, Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) and Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) announced that the U.S. Department of Defense has awarded a $5.3 million contract to FN Manufacturing, Inc. (FNMI), of Columbia, South Carolina. As part of a $24.3 million continuing contract to FNMI, this funding will be used to modernize machine guns. "Once again, the U.S. Department of Defense is entrusting FNMI to provide the finest military equipment available to our troops." said Wilson.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) announced that the U.S. Department of Energy has awarded a $1 million grant to the South Carolina Emergency Management Division (SCEMD), of Columbia, South Carolina. SCEMD will use the funding in Aiken, Allendale, and Barnwell counties to support emergency preparedness and response activities associated with a potential release of hazardous materials from the Savannah River Site (SRS)."This contract is great news for the counties surrounding the Savannah River Site," said Congressman Wilson.

Wilson Announces $200,000 Award for Ridgeland's Wagon Branch ProjectWASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) announced that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded a $200,000 grant to the town of Ridgeland, South Carolina, for the Wagon Branch Project. By allowing Ridgeland to extend its water lines to the Wagon Branch community, this funding will help improve water quality in the area. "The citizens of the Wagon Branch community have suffered with poor water quality for too many years," said Wilson.
