WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) announced that the U.S. Department of Energy has awarded a $1 million grant to the South Carolina Emergency Management Division (SCEMD), of Columbia, South Carolina. SCEMD will use the funding in Aiken, Allendale, and Barnwell counties to support emergency preparedness and response activities associated with a potential release of hazardous materials from the Savannah River Site (SRS)."This contract is great news for the counties surrounding the Savannah River Site," said Congressman Wilson.
